Famous still life artists are some of the most respected and sought after artists throughout the world. Their work is a testament to their ability to bring art to the masses with simplicity and beauty. These artists often used strong natural colors and very dark detail to bring life to even the tiniest of objects. Still life artists were often put religious meaning in their work, that for the less inclined, cannot be readily seen at first glance.
Louis De Bernieres is one of the most famous still life artists who is also very popular with collectors. In the early years of his career, he often painted his subjects in the nude. As his career progressed, he was able to paint more portraits of people and began to paint nudes instead of the traditional subjects that he had always favored. It was during this time that he also began to use light in his paintings, utilizing shadows and lighter colors to give his pictures depth and realism. The colors and light that he used are often reflective of what he felt was surrounding him in his surroundings.
One of the most important groups that you will find amongst the ranks of the famous still life artists of the 20th century is the Paris based group known as the Morandi. Formed in the late teens of the previous decade, they quickly became well known throughout Europe. Part of the reason for this popularity was the fact that they often painted realistic, portrait style images that looked very real and portrayed the subjects as if they actually took form in the painting. They also often showed a strong religious symbolism in their artwork and used religious iconography, usually Christian crosses or cherubs to represent Jesus Christ.
One of the first groups that fall into the category of the most famous still life artists of the 20th century would be the French group known as the MDF. The MDF began when the great French artist, Pierre Balanchine, decided to create a group of portraits using mostly photographs that he took himself. From these he was able to build up a large collection. When he began to paint, it was often with the purpose of creating something similar to a pastiche. As his collection grew he began to experiment with the colors and light settings. This resulted in many of the colors being used in modern day art, although there were always a few who retained their traditional colors.
The next group on the list would be the artists known as the Fauvist group. They would often paint vibrant colors and would use large fruit and vegetable themes in their artwork. They were one of the first groups to place religious symbolism into their works. They would often see the cross, an angel, and other symbols that could be interpreted as Godly. This group was very popular and their artwork is still commonly sold today.
The third group on our list would be the Dalmatians. This group of famous still life artists included Rembrandt and reproductions of ancient Greek art. The Dalmatians would often depict scenes from nature in their artwork and the fruits of their labor would include exotic berries, blueberries, plums, pears, nectarines, and other fruits of the wild. The blue vase and the bow would be two common images for this group of artists.
The fourth group on our list would be the Flora-Phenatics. This was a grouping of painters who focused on flowers. The emphasis was on capturing the beauty of nature through their art. Two of the more popular and best known members of this genre of still life artists were Rembrandt and his student, the Dutch master Rembrandt. These two artists are considered to be among the best still life artists of all time.
As you can see, there are many genres of beautiful still life paintings that can be considered to be amongst the best in the world. Some of the artists are well known while others are not. What is most important is that you are able to determine which artists are famous and which ones are not. With this information, you can have a better understanding of which artists you would like to emulate in your own art style.
